our guidelines

   First
The Gilded Lantern is an open, welcoming community that allows all sorts of people, members or not, to participate in events, RP, and talk. Treat everyone you meet in our community, Mateus, and FFXIV as a whole with respect and dignity, indiscriminate of background, belief, race, ethnicity, culture, gender, gender identity, and political beliefs.
   Second
We are a mercenary trading company, and can touch on or cover some very touchy, severe, or otherwise mature content not suited for those who are below the legal age limit in North America (NA) where our server Mateus resides.
   Third
Do not share any personal information you wouldn’t be comfortable sharing to strangers, as anyone who joins the server has access to channel history and can see it. Politics, opinions, and drama are very draining for many, so do not share them publicly, and if they come up, please be kind, respectful, mature, and step away if/when you’re getting to invested or heated, or report it to an officer.
   Fourth
We all have bad days where sometimes channel our feelings into our character to relieve it from ourselves, but remember your character is not you, and things happening to your character are not actually happening or meant against you as a player. If it feels like someone is taking jabs at you ICly or you see someone struggling to keep IC and OOC separate, let an officer know.

   Eigth
You are allowed your main and total of four alts in Gilded Lantern. Do not talk about banned game activities in the game or outside of their designated channels. Keep content where it’s supposed to go in the discord. Music in media, screenshots in screenshots, etc. You will not be kicked or removed for being inactive. At worse, you will be moved to an inactive role in game until your return. Contact an officer when you submit an OOC interview and/or want an IC one. Officers are busy and we forget to check sometimes.

   Fifth
Sometimes indulging in things can be fun, or you have a favourite person or group you like to rp with, but as a whole, always try to be inclusive and invite others into the activity especially if you’re in a public room (the estate, the first 15 rooms, and any room that is openly assessable). We operate as a low to mid-tier powered free company, so often it’s not us dealing with end of the world scenarios. Keep non-cannon or alt-cannon things of such power scales off estate grounds or in a private space.
   Sixth
If there is an event/storyline/topic IC or OOC you want to talk about or RP that might be triggering or uncomfortable to some, please make sure to talk with others and ask before committing to it. No one will ever fault you for asking. Conversely if an RP/situation/topic was fine and isn’t anymore or in general is beginning to make you uncomfortable, please be sure to communicate and ask others around you to stop, or move the conversation somewhere else. If they persist or continue to make others uncomfortable, let an officer know. Never be scared to contact an officer, our job is to be here for you and help where we can.
   Seventh
Anyone who wishes to be a part of the community may join in on company events and rps, so long as your character fits within our character guide. Yes, even you off server folk stuck somewhere else. Only those in the server (Mateus) and refusing to join our company on said character are not considered eligible for official membership (on that character), and those who have been kicked or banned from the community.

  • Bans, Lore Breaks, Complicated Cases, and Points of Concern:

For this context, within our FC, "Lore breaking" means to go against or contradict the established background information, rules, and history of a fictional universe, world, or even a person's personal history. It's when a character or event doesn't align with the established canon or facts, creating an inconsistency that can detract from the story or world's cohesiveness. Bans are things banned outright from the company, either because they cause lore breaks, are too powerful, too complicated, pose a great threat to people within the company, or they are illegal/too highly restricted in game. They are as follows:

* Black Mages [BLM]
* White Mages [WHM]
* Primal/God Summoners
* Multi-Soulstones (as in having multiple at once)
* Elementals/Gods/Primals/Kami
* WOL - level of characters
* Relation to MSQ characters
* Unrealistic relation to MSQ events
* Voidsent
* Ashkin

~
Complicated Cases (and lore bending): tend to be very nuanced and it can be very hard to figure out whether or not they should be allowed. but generally speaking, they are lore aspects/character types/classes with little information to go off of, or little understanding by the player-base. If you fall under this category, it doesn’t mean you’re not allowed in, it just means you should talk to an officer about this aspect of your character first if they are and/or possess one of the following things:
~

* Dark Knights [DRK]
* Reapers [RPR]
* The Echo
* An Auspice
* Multi-classing (more than one soul-stone are not allowed)
* Excessive Extraneous Abilities (can be fine within reason and explanation)

Contracts
The Gilded Lantern specializes in a wide range of formalized contracts, each sealed with wax, intention, and mutual respect. From mercenary work to protection details, from spirit banishments to treasure retrievals, each job we take on is considered sacred — not just for the gil it brings in, but for the stories it’ll tell when the boots come off. Our posted contracts are ever-changing, and all members are encouraged to take up work that suits their talents and aspirations. If there’s wrong to be righted or gold to be earned, the Lantern will shine its light upon the path.
Tavern & Table
Nestled deep within our headquarters lies our tavern. A warm, floral-draped tavern where the gumbo simmers slow and the air carries hints of clove, pine, and spiced rum. Open to members and guests alike, the tavern isn’t just a place for a bite and a drink — it’s where folk unwind, tales are traded, and the heart of the Lantern pulses strongest. There's always a seat for you, and always someone willing to listen.

Types of ContractsElimination - In one way or another, someone or something has to be killed or removed.Capture - Someone or something needs to be taken alive or intact and brought somewhere.Liberation - Something needs to be taken from someone or somewhere and brought elsewhere, typically framed as stealth or espionage.Support - Social contracts with the least structure of any type, but always begin with assisting those in need.Collection - Something must be obtained, typically from natural sources (Wood, ore, fish, etc).Fabrication - Something needs to be made, personal delivery typically optional.These are the types of offerings one will have available during our Night of Kindling

Illuminate
The Gilded Lantern’s mission is simple but sacred: To be a steady light in an ever-darkening world. We stand as protectors of the overlooked, seekers of truth in forgotten corners, and champions of community above all. We don’t just fight for gil — we fight for those who can’t lift a blade themselves. Our guiding flame is fueled not by ego, but by empathy, and those who wear our sigil do so with pride, humility, and a fierce sense of justice.
Rooted Together
What makes the Lantern truly glow is its people. We believe in weaving connections like ivy across the bark of the world — reaching into the far corners of Eorzea and beyond to build bonds, foster collaboration, and uplift one another. Whether you’re a battle-hardened veteran, a bright-eyed botanist, or someone who simply needs a place to call home, the Lantern thrives when its light is shared. We host gatherings, training sessions, markets, and outreach missions — all in service of strengthening the ties that bind.

our promise

So whether you found us by fate, by firelight, or by following the whispers in the woods — The Gilded Lantern burns for you now. We are more than a Company. We are a haven for the wandering, a forge for the bold, and a table always set for one more. Beneath our banner, strangers become kin, lost souls find their footing, and the weary are given reason to rise again. The world outside may grow colder, darker — but within the Lantern’s glow, you’ll always have a light to come home to. So take a breath, take up your blade, your craft, your story — and walk with us. Together, we’ll cast shadows where they’re needed... and light where it matters most.
